Ohio Exclusion Database and Background Checks for NEMT Providers

Direct service providers and provider agencies are required to regularly to conduct background investigations and exclusion database checks of their employees to ensure compliance with federal regulations, preventing the hiring or contracting of individuals or entities excluded from participating in federal healthcare programs like Medicare and Medicaid, and safeguarding against potential financial penalties.

Purpose: The primary purpose of these checks is to prevent healthcare organizations from employing or contracting with individuals or entities who have been excluded from participating in federal healthcare programs (like Medicare and Medicaid).

To conduct Ohio exclusion database checks, healthcare providers and employers in Ohio should check their employees against the following:

1. Ohio Department of Medicaid's Provider Exclusion & Suspension List - This list is maintained by the Ohio Department of Medicaid and includes individuals and entities who are excluded or suspended from participating in the Ohio Medicaid program.
